Rome, 2 December 2025 – Inside Man Films has announced the development of "The Disappearance of Majorana", a dramatic series created by Stefano Fresi and Giorgio John Squarcia. The project is a historical thriller with strong spy story elements. It explores one of the greatest mysteries of the twentieth century: the disappearance of theoretical physicist Ettore Majorana in 1938, on the eve of the Second World War.
The series runs for 10 episodes of 55 minutes each, written by Squarcia. It approaches the mystery through a fresh narrative lens. As Europe slides towards war and science opens the door to atomic apocalypse, the story follows Celestino Spada — a fictional character inspired by classic noir figures — a government official working for the fascist regime's Central Political Registry. He is ordered to close the case quickly as a suicide. What begins as a bureaucratic formality soon turns into an international manhunt. Spada discovers that Majorana is not simply a missing genius, but the keeper of a secret capable of changing the outcome of the global conflict: the insight behind nuclear fission. The investigation dismantles the official theory and opens lines of inquiry touching on sexual blackmail, international espionage involving German, British and Vatican intelligence services, and the possibility of voluntary exile in South America.
"The Disappearance of Majorana" is not just a standalone series. It launches D.O.T.S. (Divergencies On True Stories), an ambitious anthology franchise created by Inside Man Films. Following the model of international successes such as True Detective and American Crime Story, each season of D.O.T.S. will take on a different great unsolved mystery from Italian history, such as the Ustica disaster, the Emanuela Orlandi case, or the Mattei Case. The unifying element of the format is a "dramatic detonator": a fictional character — like Inspector Spada in this first season — who operates within real historical events, allowing the truth to be explored as a plural phenomenon where multiple contradictory theories can coexist.
The series promises a visual and narrative approach that blends investigative journalism with the language of international prestige drama, citing works such as Chernobyl, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and The Queen's Gambit as tonal references. The story moves on two parallel tracks.
